What exactly is Microblading?
Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup which is implemented using a hand held tool comprised of between 6-14 micro needles hence the name microblade. Other names used are microsurfing, and microstroking. Microblading is a 2 step process and is not permanent. You should not expect to see the full results after only one treatment.
How is it different than eyebrow tattooing?
Microblading is the process of implanting pigment into the top layer, the epidermis, of the skin to create fuller looking brows. Microblading is good for the person that wants a semi-permanent result. Eyebrow tattooing is done with a digital device whereas microblading is done used a hand held tool. When it comes to the term microblading, the hand tool is used to simulate hair strokes in the brow. The same technique is also used with the digital machine but is implanted a little deeper. There is no vibration from the hand held tool when applying the hairline strokes which leaves them fine and crisp. Most digital applications will last in the skin between 3-5 years. Microblading is semi-permanent which will need a touch up after a year. Keep in mind different skin types, time in the sun, and the use of skin care products will affect the longevity. Naturally, the pigment will exfoliate out of the skin over time causing the pigment to lighten.
Does it hurt?
Before the microblading begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area to minimize discomfort, followed by a second step that allows the numbing to penetrate the skin. You might feel a slight discomfort but it is almost painless.
Can you describe what happens in the first session?
During your first session (approximately 2 hours), we custom design your brow shape based on your bone structure, eye placement, face shape, and other factors. The pigment choice is then selected. Once your shape and pigment are agreed upon we will pencil them on.
You do not have to hide from the world after your service. Many clients can walk right out the door, ready to show off their new brows. Initially stronger in color, your new brows will soften in 2-3 weeks.
After your initial appointment, a touch up can be done between 4-6 weeks. It is not always necessary but it is helpful as it ensures that the color is locked into the epidermis and doesn’t migrate or leave the skin completely.
How long does it last?
The service should last at least a year. Of course, there are variables in how they are taken care of etc.
Is there anything I need to do before the procedure?
You will need to stay away from flaxseed, vitamin E, and fish oils for 5 days prior. No pain relievers except for Tylenol.
Is there anyone who isn’t a candidate for microblading?
There are a few contraindications that may require a doctor’s note in order to perform the treatment. A couple examples would be are Cancer, Hemophilia, and if you are on any blood thinners. Also, some people that have existing permanent makeup are not good candidates. It depends on the color and shape of the work they had previously done to determine if they are able to have the procedure done.
Once of the most common questions, we are asked is “Can I get microbladed while I am pregnant?”
We would not perform the service if you are pregnant or nursing.
What is the aftercare?
You will need to try to keep it fairly dry for at least a week. Showering is fine if you apply a light application of aqua for to keep it sealed. You will need to stay out of the direct sun, pool, Jacuzzi, and ocean for a week. Thorough instructions about the doesn’s and don’t will be provided to you after the procedure. We will also provide you with everything you need to take care of them. The aftercare of your procedure will determine the outcome.
How long does it take to recover?
It usually takes a week to 10 days. In about 4-5 days you will have flaking. It will look lighter at that time and will takes at least one month for the pigment to come to the surface. If needed, you can come in for a free touch up in a month to 6 weeks.

On another note:
Not all microblading is created equal. Unfortunately, there is no standard for microblading. Anyone can do it legally, there is no licensing involved. Many new “microblading artists” are popping up all over. Many lack the skill and knowledge to be performing this delicate procedure. It takes numerous years of experience to duplicate the beautiful microbladed brows you see online. Having the perfect shaped brow and positioning can complement the shape of your face. The technician also needs to have the knowledge to have great numbing techniques to make the procedure as pain-free as possible, not only for your comfort but also so it doesn’t bleed and push the color out. To be knowledgeable in choosing the correct color based on color theory, the undertones of the client’s skin is detrimental achieving natural looking results.
